Avezzano is a small city in the province of L’Aquila, located in the region of Abruzzo, Italy. Abruzzo is located in central Italy, but politically, economically, and socially considered Southern Italy. [Read: “Poor.”] Abruzzo has diverse landscapes of mountains and natural parks in the west, hills and vineyards centrally, and the sea and fishing villages out east.

Avezzano, Abruzzo is famous for its potato and spinach export, involvement in WWII, and perhaps most of all, its location on the Earth’s tectonic plates—ideal for Earthquakes.
